Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Courtesy of Dragonstout. WOW. Pours a dark brown, almost black. Has a small tan creamy head. Hints a chocolate, coffee, sweet oatmeal, sweet dark fruits. Finished with a creamy thick sweet taste on the tongue. Very impressed. This is one of my favorite RIS now.

Pours extremely thick and viscous black with a quickly disappearing finger of tan head. Unique nose for an imperial- licorice, dark fruit, slight cardamon, fig- and then standard yet near-latent notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Flavor is a little more of what I would expect- dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, oatmeal, some floral hop notes. A bit of residual sugars are apparent. Body is a bit cloying but rich and apropos for an imperial stout.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Opaque black with a small pale brown head. Big well rounded aroma of figs, licorice, milky chocolate and sweet coffee. Full-bodied, oily and chewy with notes of milky chocolate, figs, raisin, tobacco and licorice. Silky smooth mouth feel. Long finish of chocolate, sweet coffee, prunes and resin.

bottle - pours near black, but is a deep ruby around the edges when backlit. no real head from a standard pour. aroma was big on licorice, with some notes of alcohol. flavor was big, sweet but well balanced by bitter roasted malts. some alcohol and dark fruit flavors, as well as licorice. great mouthfeel - good viscosity. warming aftertaste. was probably the most popular of the beers we tasted tonight overall.

Just tried this one on tap at Capone’s. Even better on tap. A really REALLY good big stout (12.5% ABV on tap?)

Bottle. Black body with a small creamy tan head. (3+) Mild but rich aroma, delicate fruity character, malt. (7+) Sweet overall flavour with a good roasty bitterness balancing a rich malty base. Mild dark chocolate undertones. Fruity, dark fruit notes. Smooth almost syrupy palate is heavy on the tongue, seems a bit under carbonated. Pretty solid.

Black pour, almost no head, minimal lacing and retention. Aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate, coffee, darker fruits, oats and a touch of vanilla. Hops play a minor role here. Heavy bodied, sweet and alcoholic. Similar to Jahva, which to me was bad. However, Oat offers better flavors and balance. Got better as my BAC rose, but I’ve definitely had lotsa better Impys. 7/3/7/4/14

Rerate: Holy crap this is bad. I’m getting a NASTY NASTY vegetal character in flavor. Typical stout notes are there, moderate to low alcohol, huge green vegetal flavor. Nearly undrinkable. 6/3/4/2/8.
Score is an average.

Black in color this poured a 1/2" head that actually picked up through pouring. The nose was filled with milk chocolate, oatmeal and some coffee. In the mouth it was full-bodied and rich with lots of palate weight. While full in the mouth it remained light on its feet. While the nose was restrained the palate was wide open and balanced. Very enjoyable from start to finish.

2007 Batch:
Pitch black coloured body with a very thin tan head that fades very fast. Aroma of roasted malt, potent coffee, a nice dose of chocolate and some light raisin flavour. Full-bodied, Very chewy taste. Nice oatmeal flavour with super strong molasses sweetness and a great vanilla and light oak taste. Aftertaste is absolutely amazing - a light hop bitterness, a mild oatmeal flavour and a super smooth alcohol flavour that is very nice. Overall, a great beer - the alcohol is almost hidden perfectly (but you definitely know its there), but the smoothness of the malt, sugar and hops blend perfectly. This is one of the nicest and most drinkable imperial stouts i’ve ever had! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 06-January-2008.
