Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Bomber pours thick and black into a snifter like motor oil. Opaque as beer can get. Had to pour aggressively to get a small head - dark tan in colour. Wow, what a stout. Aroma of all the best stouts - chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, molasses, hops as always from southern tier, but not so much alcohol. Considering it’s 11%abv, I don’t hint the insinuation of such in the aroma. The same applies to the taste. All roasted chocolate on the tongue - absolutely delicious. Leaves a creamy, oily layer of smoothness on the palate with a taste that lingers until the next sip. Again, wow, what a stout.

bottle - pours near black, but is a deep ruby around the edges when backlit. no real head from a standard pour. aroma was big on licorice, with some notes of alcohol. flavor was big, sweet but well balanced by bitter roasted malts. some alcohol and dark fruit flavors, as well as licorice. great mouthfeel - good viscosity. warming aftertaste. was probably the most popular of the beers we tasted tonight overall.

Just tried this one on tap at Capone’s. Even better on tap. A really REALLY good big stout (12.5% ABV on tap?)

Bottle from Capone’s. This one pours deep blackish with 2 fingers of deep brown head, definitely one of the darker brown heads I have ever seen. The aroma is blackstrap molasses, roasty dark patent malt, chocolate syrup, ovaltine. The palate is very rich, oily, complex, and hefty, giving flavors of dark roasty malt, chocolate syrup, molasses, and some mid-palate blackberry notes, all melded together very well, and giving a super smooth, creamy finish with no detectable alcohol. This is truly an amazing beer.

Pours black...tan head...Carmel, hops, chocolate, coffee,...mmmmmmm. This is the finest Oatmeal Stout I have tasted. Great beer!!! Enjoyed it today in my hometown of Geneseo, NY. Served in a 13oz. glass only. The ABV is actually closer to 13%. This is a brew to be appreciated...Cannot wait for their "Imperial Coffee Stout" to come out...RERATE 11/05...’05-06 batch is out. I swear it’s even better! Frothy tan head sloppin’ out of the glass and on the bar...Great aroma...tastes like my first kiss...Don’t wake me up til Christmas...Mamma...

Pours deep, dark brown with a small brown bubbly head. Strong aroma of semi-sweet chocolate, lactic sugars, light roasted coffee, and some piny/herbaceous hops. Sweet lactic and bitter chocolate flavors hit hard upfront like a bitter malted milk ball, then quickly recede into slightly bitter roasted coffee, and grassy/piny hops, but keeping up that sweetness as an undertone all the way through. Would’ve certainly pegged this for a milk stout if I didn’t know better. Palate is full, creamy, a bit grainy (like chocolate with high cocoa content), fairly sweet, and oily. That’s a damn fine impy stout that is sure is sure to drink nicely for years to come. Delicious.

Pours black, with a short lived brown head. Incredible aroma! My notes say "Great taste of fish" but I think I was drunk and quoting Monty Python. Regardless, I was clearly impresed with a strong chocolate aroma. Tastes fantastic, oaty thick with molasses and alcohol in the finish. Love it! Thick body with great carbonation. Very, very nice. Many thanks to Ughsmash for the trade!

bottle shared at pops- what a heavenly beer. pours black with a little tan head. nose is one of the finest I’ve come into contact with, lush and fresh incredibly enticing and complex. Overtones of chocolate with a background of berries, hints of a hop backbone, and sweet desserts like brownies or chocolate cake. Taste was incredible. Chocolate up front, with a definite oat character. Molasses, caramel, bavarian chocolate cake, thick layers of everything that is good in life. Hop bitterness balances it to near perfection. Mouthfeel is absolutely perfect. Fluffy, yet sticky, goes down silky smooth. One of the finest beers I’ve yet come in contact with. Perfect cap to an evening of fine beers and pool with pops. Cheers!
