Haslinger (511), Syracuse, New York, USA Jun 18, 2008 22 ounce bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head. The aroma is malt with a strong alcohol finish, The taste is malt, chocolate and coffee. There is also some molasses and the oat taste is definitely there. There is surprisingly little alcohol taste for how much there was in the smell. Very good beer would buy again
NomDeBeer (129), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 18, 2008 After Southern Tier Choklat, Iwas stoked about trying this one, but found it underwhelming. Nice palate, full body, but boring flavor and aroma. cgarvieuk (2302), Edinburgh, Scotland Aug 15, 2008 Bottle at home ... sweet tobaco oat ... rich toffee ... sweet molasis syrupy ... little alcohol ... little yeast ... little vanilla ... roast chocolate ... quite a bit of chocolate in background ... wonderfull smooth and silky ... i rated it 4 when i first rated it but it grown on me the further into it i got... Oh this seriosly need a Side by side with the Chokolate Its just a shame by the time you add international postage this turns into a dear beer to have often. Zinister (855), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 11, 2008 Thanks to July Santa for this great bottle. Dark pour with mocha head. Aroma of licorice, oatmeal, coffee and soft hops. Full bodied with flavors of chocolate, vanilla, oats and some sugary sweetness. Really enjoyed. Thanks Santa! MaltOMeal (270), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Aug 9, 2008 bomber. Pours black with a brown head which dissipated quickly. nose was of licorice, coffee and alcohol. Taste was sweet chocolate, oat and molasses. Mouthfeel was medium-to-thick with alcohol noticeable. Very good, although I liked their Jah-va better.
IMtheOptimator (1113), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Aug 5, 2008 After my rather disappointing stout experience last night, I thought I’d give it another shot with a different beer. Poured black with a light brown head. Rich aromas of dark chocolate, bourbon, dark fruits, apple skins, and brown sugar. Flavor is rather sweet with some notes of caramel, brown sugar, some fruitiness with apple, pear, some light coffee, and some peppery alcohol. Finish is more toward the sweet side with leftover notes of coffee and fruit. Body is fairly chewy. Overall a great stout experience, and my enthusiasm for the style is pretty much revived.
