Commercial Description:
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

Bottle: Malty nose with a Deep copper body. Body is full and rolling. Gentle hops from center of body thru finish. A good winter warmer shared with friends.

Yummmmm. I love the hop profile in this. Perhaps the beer that has everything!? I get citrus hops abound and lots of pine, moderate soapy notes start the profile off with funky cilantro as soon as it hits the mouth, then into some grassy oilly bitters, then finished off crisp and cleanly by floral hops. Again, yum. Would love to try this on draft. The malts are perfect too, they’re in medium quantity but not bready and only give a light caramel backbone. Exceptional brew.

Clear deep amber pour with a constellation of light head on top. Aroma of Southern tier yeast and hops up front, some fruit. Hop forward flavor, with dry caramelly malts. Peanut butter in the finish with some alcohol. This beer is ambivalent like a hotel room.

Ah, yes. Good. Poured fairly dark. Malt flavors. Some cola. Some medium level hops, a bit of floral, a bit of grapefruit. Thought this was good.

Has a clear dark golden/amber color. Aroma is full of floral hops with some grain and very little lemon peels. Taste is pretty much the same. It’s medium bodied with fresh floral hops and some citrus. Has a fresh hop aftertaste. Another pleasant experience from Southern Tier.

Pours a dark mahogany/copper with a light tan head. Aromas of citrus hops, grapefruit, slightly masked roasted malts, and caramel. Flavor is citrus hops and grapefruit upfront then goes to a nicely balanced caramel and slight roasted malts. Somewhat dry, bitter, semi sweet. I wouldn’t mind aging some of these but I went through the 6 pack already:(

Bottle. Had this sometime ago. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Chewy malty body with hints of chocolate and dark fruit, plum and some lighter cinnamon like spices. Great brew.
