Commercial Description:
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

12 oz bottle pous a clear orange amber with a soapy beige head. Piney hops touch of spice and malt in the nose. Toasted malty flavors. Piney, earthy, some citrus, and a bitter pine and alcohol warm finish. Nothing great but a pretty decent warmer.

12oz bottle. Pours reddish brown with almost no head. Heavily carbonated. Aroma is of hops, pine, malt and alcohol. Taste is of very earthy hops, spice, malt, and pine. Huge, bitter alcohol burn. Thick mouthfeel with a very bitter finish. This beer has a very funky earthiness that makes it hard to drink.

Pours a nice brown/ruby color. Aroma is a bit of hops, a bit of malt. Nothing really exciting. Flavor is similarly nondescript. A bit of hop kick, but not a lot. Not a bad beer. Easy drinker, but at 8% it’s not really a session beer.

Bottle. Brownish color, off white head. Aroma has pine hops, caramael and spices. Flavor is malty and has some major notes of black tea. This one is just ok for me.

12 oz bottle-pours an off white ring for a head and copper color. Aroma is pine/citrus hops, secondary medium malt-toffee. Taste is herbal/pine/some citrus/spice hops, secondary sweet medium malt-toffee. They clash more than complement each other although still enjoyable. Mild carbonation. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a golden brown color with a smaller off white head. The aroma has a decent amount of citrus and pine hops blended with, but not overshadowed by sweet tea and caramel. The flavor has a nice sweetness from caramel malt and tea, but is overcome a bit by the citrus and pine hops. The finish is more on the bitter side. Medium bodied, light carbonation, and fairly easy to drink.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber body with a hoppy, bitter aroma. The taste is bitter, but not bad.
