Some slight aroma was detected of burnt caramel. The flavor was pleasantly surprising...caramel malts, brown sugar, some nutty notes reminiscent of a brown ale and some mild spicing with a zingy pine hop presence in the back end. Crisp and enjoyable for sipping on a winter’s night. Good stuff. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Aroma is a robust dark chocolate, strong coffee and brown sugar, burgundy, a small tan head. Flavour begins with a burnt almond, dark chocolate, roasted malt, red plums, port, sherry and treacle. Complex, very well balanced, full bodied. Dazzling! xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 30, 2008 12oz bottle from Discount Liquor in Milwaukee. Darker brown with small tan head. Aroma is caramel, aged alc that almost becomes perfumy, darker malt, sweeter. Flavor is dry grainy, caramel, slight dough and alc, plum, some very nice bitter caramelized malt comes out as it warms. Meidum to thin, lightly carbonated to watery body. Nice, but alc is a little off putting. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2008 Bottle given by jsquire. Thanks, Jeff! Huge, frothy, slightly fizzy ivory head that was mostly lasting, splotchy amounts of lacing, carbonation noted, mostly transparent with a slight haziness, and an orange hue. Nose was caramel, sweet, hoppy, grapefruit, citrus, malty, and spicy. Ditto for the flavor with a thin and dry finish. Mouthfeel was slightly tingly and thin. Medium in body. A quaffable and enjoyable beer to drink even though there are stronger, bolder beers of this style available. Nicely balanced and worthy of a try IMO. Personally, I would drink this one again if given the opportunity. MrManning (1652), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2008 Bottle- Unleashes a deep and murky mahogany from the bottle. Head is limited to about half an inch and steps back to the sidelines. Spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon), malty nose with hints of cognac and wood. Spiced sweet malts blend with woody , earthy flavours, and lead to a slightly bitter and hoppy, warming alcoholic finish. This one is meant for sipping, and as such, is quite enjoyable. Quite good. Aroma is caramel malt, some choclate, x-mas spices, and nuts. Tastes rich, malty, with defined chocolate, nut, and x-mas spice flavor components. Not one of my favorite ST brews, but not bad. redlight (1475), Winter Park, Florida, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Feb 9, 2008 To me this really tastes like a pale ale. Mild hops in the aroma and flavor, buts its flavor becomes a bit generic towards the end.
