| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2007 This is an extremely nice, hoppy (not spicy) winter beer. I’ve been extremely impressed by the sudden array of Southern Tier beers available here in southeastern Wisconsin, and this is no exception.
This beer pours a rich amber color with perfect head formation of tiny bubbles compressed into a thick lid. Like all Southern Tier beers I’ve had, the body is clear and brilliant. Aroma is hoppy and very phenolic. Flavor is also hoppy, but balanced with abundant amounts of caramel malt (and I think a bit of diacetyl). Mouthfeel is smooth (the diacetyl helps, if it is in fact there) but a bit flat.
Quite nice, and definitely recommended. hopson (594), Williamsville, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2007 draft- rather malty and big, with a citrus hop aroma, and some hop flavor that I bet dissipates over the next couple months. Still, not bad, but not one of ST’s better offerings. gws57 (1137), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2007 Found this one bottled in Camp Lake, Wisconsin. Clear, dark red pour with a foamy, thick tan head that dissipated rapidly, hoppy and piney with red grapes and merlot. Strong finish! I love these winter ales! Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2007 Bottle. A amber beer with a tan head. The aroma is of caramel malt, spices and light hoppy. The taste is light sweet caramel, spicy and of pine. Medium body with a dry finish. Papsoe (14996), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2007 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of pineypower. Clear, warm, amber golden with an off-white head. Fresh, hoppy and lightly citrusy nose. Quite full-bodied with sweet notes of caramel and perhaps a floral touch. There’s a solid bitternes in the finish with also quite some alcohol bite. Solid alright. 171107 Ungstrup (15228), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 18, 2007 Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet mlaty with light notes of nuts and fruit. The flavor is rather sweet with strong notes of spices, alcohol, and fruit, I can’t pick out the spices. The alcohol burns slightly on the palate, when I drank it I guessed it at 8.5% ABV, which is a bit more than it actually is. JPDIPSO (4906), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 17, 2007 Bright light brown color with orange tendencies when held to the light. Smallish off-white head. Hints of caramel malt draped in herbal and weed pollen scented hops. Some chocolate and and trace of DMS (canned peas) as well. Dark caramel and liquid hot flavors. Some wintergreen, grass, licorice and fennel fill the finish and linger. I’m not catching much love with this one. A stronger unbalanced brew. Perhaps some time will help, but this is what is being served to me now.
