The aroma is sweet mlaty with light notes of nuts and fruit. The flavor is rather sweet with strong notes of spices, alcohol, and fruit, I can’t pick out the spices. The alcohol burns slightly on the palate, when I drank it I guessed it at 8.5% ABV, which is a bit more than it actually is. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 17, 2007 Bright light brown color with orange tendencies when held to the light. Smallish off-white head. Hints of caramel malt draped in herbal and weed pollen scented hops. Some chocolate and and trace of DMS (canned peas) as well. Dark caramel and liquid hot flavors. Some wintergreen, grass, licorice and fennel fill the finish and linger. I’m not catching much love with this one. A stronger unbalanced brew. Perhaps some time will help, but this is what is being served to me now. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Nov 13, 2007 This beer pour a dark amber color with virtually no head. It was bitter and hoppy with no real taste. Felt very creamy and smooth on the palate. I like most of the other S.T. beers, but not a fan of this one. jlf278 (255), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 30, 2007 12 oz. bottle Aroma of mushrooms and molasses. Looks appetizing, head sticks around for a while, molasses color. Tastes really wonderful, starts with toffee then lots of nutty wood, maybe cedar, finishing with black coffee. Good bitterness that really lasts. Something like cinnamon and nutmeg resonating deep within that permeates and couples well with the lasting bitter flavors. Palate is rich and creamy, medium-full body. Best Winter Ale I’ve had, and that’s a competitive arena. tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 16, 2007 I actually enjoyed this. It really tasted similar to many other "winter ales" I have had. Dark, sweet tasting. Very thick. Very hearty. Like a roasting fire in my mouth. I didn’t really feel that much of the hops in this one. I did enjoy it. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 6, 2007 Pours a deep amber color into the lager glass. There was an inch of creamy white head and spider webs of lacing. The scent was of hops, spices, floral notes and some pine. The flavor is very rich and complex with a nice hop and malt balance. A warming mouthfeel and crisp finish. Old Man is a solid winter ale. BigDaddyBlues (39), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2007 Malt is what I got out of this beer. It was more like a barley wine in aroma and taste. Nothing I would go out of my way for again but a solid ale. merlin48 (519), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Pours a clear cola brown body with a small creamy beige head. Nice patchy lacing. Aroma is caramel and chocolate with hints of pine hops, ginger, and orange peel. Taste mirrors the aroma with a very dry finish. Decent winter warmer.
