Commercial Description:
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

12oz bottle, Dark amber color, foamy lasting off whit ehead, great aroma of hops, Nutty, big malt flavor, slight notes of chocolate, raisins, carame, lots of sweetness, and then great hops to balance out the malt. This is what i look for in an american strong ale.

Draft. Aroma: Medium sweet maltiness with some toffee undertones. Some dark fruits and toasted nuts. Resiny hops with a touch of citrus. Appearance: Dark reddish brown in color and clear. Off-white head was medium-full and foamy with good retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Sweet malt, caramel, toasted nuts, raisins. Resin and citrus hops come through here, as well. A little too hoppy for a winter warmer, but still good. Semi-dry finish. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Moderate alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: Not a bad beer, but nothing special. Too much hops to be a winter warmer, IMO.

12 oz bottle from Shadey. This was a super hoppy, somewhat malty beverage. I tasted some spices, but it was pretty subdued. Good stuff.

12oz bottle pours caramel brown with a short offwhite head that fades back to a ring but laces a little from there. Aromas of caramel, slight hops, molasses, and some raisin. Flavor is caramel sweet upfront with some raisin fruitiness and some light hops at the finish. Low carbonation medium body and a slight bitter finish. Not bad..

Hoppy light barleywine aroma, deserving of winter, natural, and fresh citrus. clear burnt amber with short beige head. Hoppy DIPA with light barleywine backbone and medium ale palate. delightful.

12 oz bottle. Clear ruby brown with a bone head. Lace patches and rings. Rummy bananas and caramel. Prominent alcohol, bitter malts. Thin molasses, golden raisin, candied orange peel. Light carb, medium light. Dry grassy finish. Bit too much hop for me.

Courtesy of Santa.
The body is a dark ruddy brown with a firm, creamy and quite lasting off white head. Very attractive beer.
The aroma is hoppy with some sweet crystalized sugar spiked malt and a faint hint of toastiness.
Fore is medium hop bitter with pine notes, medium sweetness malts and more mild toastiness. The aroma tells yhou exactly what to expect. Added warmth gives it nutty and sweeter malt flavors. No real faults with it. No real stellar pluses either, save the beautiful appearance.
