Commercial Description:
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

Bottle. Low but lasting white fluffy head. Clear4 brown body. Hoppy acidic lemon caramel aroma. Acidic lemon caramel nut grassy flavor with a low carbonation and a long bitter aftertaste. The high alcohol percentage is very well hidden.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, dark brown with off white head. Smells of malt, spices. Taste is balanced with smooth malty flavor with crisp bitter bite. Nice and warming, this is really a nice winter brew.

Bottle: Pours a clear brownish copper with a thin off-white head that has some nice lacing. Aroma is fruity with hints of caramel. Rich flavor is mainly hops from start to finish with some floral accents and a touch of caramel to help balance it out, but the hops win out in the bitter finish. A good one to pick up if you are able to buy singles.

12oz bottle from scrizzz. Clear orangish tan with uniform, but thin head. Sweet candied fruit and hops, fresh cedar, bready malt. Pretty straight forward light crytal malt, mild citrus hops with some grassy hay bittering on the end. Nothing wrong with this beer and would drink another.

12oz. bottle. Fairly flat pour, yet decent lacing. Aroma is heavy on the grassy hay side with a touch of honey. The flavor is understated for a winter seasonal, dry and a touch on the sour side. Makes me wonder if there is rye in the mix. A little bit flat on the back of the tongue, so the finish is kind of weak. The alcohol is well hidden. I almost want to say this is more of a fall beer than a winter. And it would be only a fair to middling fall beer.

Bottle sampled at Grapes of Mirth Winter Beers Tasting. Aroma was mostly hops and pine. Flavor was SLIGHTLY carmel with mostly hops. Not a fan.
