The hops are definitely the showcase of this beer, but they were balanced very well by the malts. Probably my favorite of the Winter Seasonals, way to go Southern Tier! Sweet barley flavor with a touch of roasted malt and spice. It is light and smooth but packs a punch. A nice winter ale. 6ROW (258), corpus christi, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 28, 2009 Pours a deep amber into the glass, with a small frothy cream-colored head that retains well. The nose on this is VERY reminiscent of pine and hops, indicative of IPA’s or particular strands of PA’s. Honestly, the flavors are almost the exact same reminiscence. A generous amount of malt, with a nice cut of piney hops. This also has some grapefruit, sweet caramel malt and a lightly peppering bitter finish that lasts decently. If not already categorized as an ASA, I could have been mistaken for an IPA. Decent brew, and comes together well. Carbonation levels are almost perfect, providing a slick mouthfeel. The palate isn’t thick necessarily, but wonderfully integrated, and an offering I’d definitely seek out again. dlovell2 (143), Columbia, Maryland, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 22, 2009 Bottle. Surprisingly large PNW-citric hoppy aroma, a little bit of tea in with lovely musty, earthy hops. Dulled-copper pour with a creamy, leggy beige head. Taste is very dark, strongly and richly malty, earthy with medium-strong bitterness, very dry. A little heft and a little alcohol burn. Grapefruit backs off, as do the sweaty hop notes, but there’s some nice dark toffee notes and rounded light roast, a touch of raw resin, caramel, strong black tea. Fullish body, lightly warming with a small touch of wood/tobacco. Getting some nice, variegated character out of their hops. Very dry, hop tea aftertaste. A little too heavy to repeat more than once every two or three years, but a very pleasant surprise! JK (2961), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Well hopped in the flavor and aroma. Some fruit, citrus. Sweet malt, that creates a balance of the mildly bitter hops and the sweetness.
