Clear dark orange, thin head, some lacing. Lots of orange and orange peel. There’s a hint of clove that turns to nutmeg in the end. Not as potent as advertised, but the alcohol is detectable. A nice holiday beer. nearbeer (1864), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Aromas of resin, caramel, and spicy citrus. Tastes of caramel, resin, orange, toasted pecan and walnut, earthy tea leaf, and oak. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 14, 2009 Poured a dark copper color, and had a sweet flowery aroma. The hops are definitely the showcase of this beer, but they were balanced very well by the malts. Probably my favorite of the Winter Seasonals, way to go Southern Tier! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 28, 2009 Pours a deep amber into the glass, with a small frothy cream-colored head that retains well. The nose on this is VERY reminiscent of pine and hops, indicative of IPA’s or particular strands of PA’s. Honestly, the flavors are almost the exact same reminiscence. A generous amount of malt, with a nice cut of piney hops. This also has some grapefruit, sweet caramel malt and a lightly peppering bitter finish that lasts decently. If not already categorized as an ASA, I could have been mistaken for an IPA. Decent brew, and comes together well. Carbonation levels are almost perfect, providing a slick mouthfeel. The palate isn’t thick necessarily, but wonderfully integrated, and an offering I’d definitely seek out again. dlovell2 (143), Columbia, Maryland, USA
