Commercial Description:
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet mlaty with light notes of nuts and fruit. The flavor is rather sweet with strong notes of spices, alcohol, and fruit, I can’t pick out the spices. The alcohol burns slightly on the palate, when I drank it I guessed it at 8.5% ABV, which is a bit more than it actually is.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of pineypower. Clear, warm, amber golden with an off-white head. Fresh, hoppy and lightly citrusy nose. Quite full-bodied with sweet notes of caramel and perhaps a floral touch. There’s a solid bitternes in the finish with also quite some alcohol bite. Solid alright. 171107

Bottled. Clear reddish brown, fairly small head. Fruity and soapy with grapefruity mangoish hop aroma. Sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Heavy on crystal malt. Mildly resiny finish with lasting strong bitterness. Solid and warming, if a little bit unpolished.

Golden-ruby colour. Appetizing C-hop aroma with toasty, caramelly malts, lemon, and chocolate chip cookie dough. The palate is wonderfully balanced between floral, citric hops and a complex maltiness where toasty porter-like notes play off of toffeeish English Strong Ale ones. They aren't re-inventing the wheel with this beer, but with balance like this it's pretty clear they're coming close to perfecting the wheel.

Hazy amber color. Caramel aroma, some hop. Strong caramel flavor, with sweetness and a good body strength; also the bitterness level is good, the final has sweet nuts too. Not complex but fairly good.

12oz bottle shared courtesy of zrrbrrt. I debated on rating this as I had it right after a couple of big beers that rated pretty damn high, but I will and will give this one the benefit of doubt. Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, caramel, and toasted malts. Tastes of citrus, hearbal ’ice tea’, pine and caramel.
