Commercial Description:
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

Real solid winter brew. Alcohol is very well hidden--I would never guess this was anywhere near 8%. Roasty, sweet-ish flavor, very balanced. Smell and appearance are run-of-the-mill for winter ales. Nice mouth.

Bottle, bought @ Havnens Vin og Tobak, Vejle.
Pours dark clear copper with a nice, creamy, yellowish head. Fine duration. Aroma is sweet, light spicy and quite hoppy. Coriander, fruit, peach, cloves, caramel, yeast, pepper and a slight herbal note. Medium carbonation, nice creamy mouthfeel. Lovely caramel flavour, yeast, light hoppy bitterness, nuts, cloves, liqourice. Fine, lightly spicy bitter aftertaste. Nice.

reddish brown with reasonable white head. citrus and herbal hop to the nose. moderate carbonation for the style. solid bitterness followed by a citrus and herbal hops with some spicy notes, followed by high lovibond crystal malt and a fairamount of residual sweetness. a nice version of white i consider the winter ipa, which is a high crystal malt ipa. good for the season and a good brew

Smells like spelt pasta. Rich, clear caramel, good lacing. Apricot, dry. Reminds me of brett? I’m torn over this, leaning toward against.

Bottle. Low but lasting white fluffy head. Clear4 brown body. Hoppy acidic lemon caramel aroma. Acidic lemon caramel nut grassy flavor with a low carbonation and a long bitter aftertaste. The high alcohol percentage is very well hidden.
