Commercial Description:
When Phin and Matt sat down to collaborate on their new beer, they knew it had to be different if they were to call it extraordinary. "Let sprinkle it with fairy dust and wave our magic wands," said Phin. "No way," said Matt, "We've got to do better than that. This beer has to be better than any other in the galaxy." "Let's do some market research." So the two strapped on their rocket pack packs and traveled to the intergalactic beer store. After sampling an array of beers from acrossed the galaxy, the duo hit on an idea. "I've got it" exclaimed Matt, "we'll use vast amounts of whole hops, the finest malt, and put a little more love in every batch." "Eureka!" shouted Phin. And thus became a beer so fresh and tasty the duo put their names on it. 37 IBU's, 5.6% ABV

Pours a hazy orangish copper under a small white head composed of very fine bubbles. Nice perfumy hop aroma with a light citrus fruitiness of tangerines and lime zest. Flavor is fruity and crisp, so much citrus flavor you’d swear they added oranges to this. Very well balanced and thirst quenching. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with very fine carbonation yielding a creamy mouthfeel. A pretty nice Pale Ale. Not overly aggressive or in your face, but a nice session drinker.

Moderate bright malt aroma with hints of slight hop fruityness. Clear golden orange color. Medium creamy malt taste with a mild hop bite finish.

Somewhat waters, lacks the character of a good ale. Nothing above average.

Part of a Mix Pack with ST IPA and ST Tripel. Pours a golden color with a small off-white head. The nose was dominated by hops, lemon zest and a some malt. The taste was a little thin for me. There wasn’t any bite or aftertaste to speak of and the beer was quite forgetable. Not a great ale.

Cloudy dirty orange body with almost not head. Light body, almost watery. Proto-typical citrus hop juice in a body lacking malts. Soft caramel, some plain cookies, pineapples, and a spicy touch (white pepper). Light bitterness with a light acidity in the finish. Soft carbo, too soft. I just recently bought the bottle from a busy beer store but the body feels tired like an old beer past due-date beer. Lacks livelyhood. Phin & Matts Ordinary Ale.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a moderate white head that lasted slightly less than halfway through the glass. Light but pleasant aroma of caramel, sweet citrus and a bit of pine. These same qualities are in the flavor too, just a bit more pronounced. Light bitterness at the finish. I don’t know that I would call it extraordinary, bit this is certainly a very solid beer.

On tap at the Mad Mex in Robinson. The pour is a ubiquitous pale yellow american beer color. The aroma is a little sour and vinegary, but not much. Taste is somewhat like a mild IPA. Seems to have a little bit of alky bite during the session, more than the 5% listed here. Mild carbonation that at least lets you know it is a beer but almost flat. The finish is mildly hoppy and malty at the same time and is of medium length. Not too much lasting bitterness. About the same as any other pale ale I’ve had such as Sly Fox Phoenix Pale Ale, Hereford & Hops Allegheny Pale Ale, Flying Dog Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale or JW Dundees American Pale Ale . Not quite as good as Erie’s Hard Cock Ale, but I think Hard Cock may be categorized in the wrong style on this site.

(Rating #996)
