Not in the class of Edmund Fitzgerald or Anchor Porter, this beer has a nice flavor with some roasted malts and coffee, and it is a rather nice, drinkable session beer. I thought the body was rather thin even for a porter and it lacked depth and complexity compared to the top ranked porters.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Bottle. Black with mocha head, slight reddish-brown hue. Strong roasted malt, some spice and nuttiness in the aroma, oh my. Thin mouthfeel, slight hoppy crispiness. Dark chocolate and roasted nutty malt dominate. Chewy finish. Not perfect, but very solid. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Bottle. Wonderful appearance of deep brown with a crimson rim. Black forest cake aroma with coffee and molasses in the background. Lighter palate than expected. Heavy coffee flavour, distant chocolate malt and a mild herbaceousness. A very good porter. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 12, 2009 Deep brown pour with a sticky brown head. The nose is really lovely. Lots of sweet milk chocolate and a bit of rich herbal character. Aromatic milk chocolate sweetness with very little roast. The flavour is pretty nice... soft cocoa sweetness and a slight backnote of licorice as well. The malts show a lot complexity throughout. Chocolate and toast along with a light smokiness. A kiss of cola-like spiciness and a touch of saltiness on the back. It’s a pretty solid, medium-bodied porter. mannika (108), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is rich and sweet, with espresso, chocolate, caramel, maple notes. Taste is slightly bitter to begin, then moves to a sweeter dark chocolate taste and finishes with an espresso taste. Great progression. Overall a really nice porter.
