yesyouam (345), Fairport, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 Southern Tier Tripel is a cloudy golden ale with some small particles swirling in it. It has a frothy white head that turns splotchy as it recedes. It has a faint aroma that seems dusty and fruity. It is medium bodied and smooth. The finish is crisp. It has a bold flavor: slightly sweet, fairly bitter and quite peppery. It is well balanced and well blended. The end of the taste is a warm wash of alcohol. There is an herbal aftertaste. Another solid offering from Southern Tier.
alexsdad06 (618), Ohio, USA Aug 21, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark golden color with amedium frothy white head. The aroma shows good sweetness, decent fruit character, spices, and a fair amount of alcohol. The flavor has bready malt, light fruit, noticable bitterness, light fruit, and alcohol. On the light side of medium in body with light carbonation. This, much like the Cherry Saison, is at the lower end of the spectrum for ST beers IMHO. The_Beer_God (2827), Newport News, Virginia, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle. Orange-amber pour with a small white head. Nose is flowery hops, Belgian yeast, candy sugar, spices, and sweet malts. Taste is rather hoppy for a tripel. Lots of floral hops, lighter spicy hops, spices, citrus fruits, dried tropical fruits, candy sugar, sweet malts, and yeast. Body is well carbonated and medium-full. Some creaminess on the palate but ends rather dry. Finishes with more big hops flavors, more citrus notes, big spices, lesser candy sugar, strong yeast and grain notes and some sweet malt. Definitely an "Americanized’ tripel! radagast83 (1036), Springfield, Virginia, USA Aug 16, 2008 Pours a light amber color with a frothy white head. Aroma of hops, sugar, and yeast. Flavor is relatively hoppy, and pretty sweet. It’s decent, but not as good as the rest of the Southern Tier selection. kyzr (909), Bozeman, Montana, USA Jul 29, 2008 Clear cold with bright white head. Nose of yeast and spice. Flavor is rather sweet, with some hints of spice, but really really sweat. Texture is heavy and really thick. Has a bitter finish to it. MrBeerFanatic (197), jamestown, New York, USA Jul 29, 2008 Pours a medium bodied amber/dark yellow with an off white semi frothy head. Has a nice aroma of piney hops, candy, and some yeast. The flavor is somewhat like a strong IPA but lacks a strong hop character. It does have a piney and floral hoppy note. There’s also notes of barely. Pretty bitter at the end. Haven’t had that many triples but this one isn’t bad. Southern tier has much better beer out there than this(not implying this is a bad beer).
