Disappointing "award-winning" Aussie premium lager. Pale gold colour, 1cm rocky white head and fizzy champagne-like carbonation. Head had some length and laced surprisingly well. Bland premium Aussie lager aroma - pale malt, hint of citric hops. Fresher smelling than some of its rivals but not very inspiring. Palate is spoiled by the burp-inducing fizzy mouthfeel. Malty middle and a nasty metallic finish. Buggered if I can see why this won awards. (Bottle, best before 2/8/05)

Clear dark gold, ours a very nice creamy head. Nose doesn’t give much. Easy going palate; appropriate fizz levels. Certaintly a softer, malt driven style with a sliver of cripness. Not bad but won’t set the world on fire.

Clear gold, reasonable head for half the glass, poor head for the other half. Smooth caramel, diacetyl and a tiny tiny bit of hop aroma. Not that dissimilar to bottled PU really. The malt comes through nicely. Nice malty flavour again, but the hop flavour seems very metallic. Quite fizzy too. This really isn’t that far from Urquell at all, it’s just lacking that little bit of finesse.

15 May 2004 - Simplisitic, slightly sweet aroma. Clear amber colour, good head retention and lacing. A true lawnmower beer with a slight sweet nothingness. Fizzy with light mouthfeel.

Slight fruity spicy aroma with clear amber colour and good head. Short sweet fruit flavour with flat smooth finish.

Bottled. At the Sydney Fish Markets. Golden body with a fine white head, that was well maintained throughout. Enjoyed with a dozen Sydney Rock Oysters and a Dozen Coffin Bay Pacific, the beer was a well made and present larger.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one and only could find a negative in that the appearance was pathetic! It was a good regular upwards to premium brew but overpriced for what it provided. Maybe it was the notorious Adelaide Water that dampened its taste.

I was quite disappointed with this beer. My old man had recommended it, but I don't think it really suits my tastes. By no means a bad lager, simply lacks in that certain character that makes a great lager. Maybe not to my likings too much, but I could recommend it to anyone whos looking for an Australian lager.
