tomhale (1), hermon, Maine, USA does not count Mar 2, 2008 I wouldnt use this horrid swill to clean out my toilet, was this a joke or did I get a bad bottle? We were all pretty dissapointed, ive made better stuff when I was about ten by "accidentally" forgetting a bottle or two in my basement. Im not really a wine snob, so im not going to use the regular aroma or flavor terms, but instead liken it to rancid cat urine. porterhouse (951), Alna, Maine, USA Nov 13, 2007 (750 ml bottle from the cidery) Yeasty, cheesy, funky and tart...Pours hazy light yellowish orange with a small whitish very effervescent head that disappears quickly. Aroma of sourish apple, yeast, cheese and funk. Mouthfeel light, very dry (although not as dry as the sample I had at the winery (thanks Tom!) - that was incredibly, lip-puckeringly dry), light prickly effervescence. Flavor is funky and quite tart, definitely no sweetness like a mass-produced hard cider. Sourish, tart earthy apple and cheesy yeast. Slight berry fruitiness as it warms. Has a real rustic feel. Really kind of refreshing and easy to drink. ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA May 31, 2005 Updated: Apr 30, 20072005 bottle, 750mL from the Belfast, ME Coop, consumed with Muzzlehatch on 5/22/2005 at the "Crappy Maine beers plus two random Belgians and a Cider" Tasting. Unfiltered this cider is, with the color of dried straw, flecks of gold and some light tints of rust. No head, quite still, with some legs. Aroma of straw, grass, dry green and yellow apples, very dry something (Barry’s suggestion of herbs seems to work), heathery and somewhat cheesy (very light and dry) notes of yeast. Flavor is immensely dry, lightly acidic and very tart on the end. It’s quite funky and very sour overall, wtih only apple and pear skin like flavors, no real sweetness and a watery consistency as it finishes. Quite rustic and charming, I quite enjoy naturally fermented beverages. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA May 30, 2005 750 bottle, presumably fresh, shared with the gracious and bodacious ClarkVV at his parents’ commodious habitation in Belfast, ME. Hazy, unfiltered gold with no visible carbonation...barnyardy/funky sour apple nose with light dried herbs (thyme particularly)....very, very dry and funky/sour body, bit watery, very acidic and tart, seems a bit oxidized (bottle not so new after all?)...hints of blueberry and dry nuts (walnut perhaps) as it warms. Very fine example of this all-too-rare (in the USA anyways) style of cider.
