Commercial Description:
This pale ale is medium-bodied with a golden amber color. It has a very pleasant hop character that integrates nicely with its smooth malt flavors.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Bottled. Beer is clear, light golden brown. Head is initially white, small, frothy/fizzy. Quickly diminishes, but mostly lasts. Cloud-animal lacing.
The first impression on the nose is abrasive. Malty with light notes of toasted grain, toasted bread crust; Hoppy with a moderate notes of resinous, dull grapefruit oil, light citrus zest notes; Trace of raw dough; Moderate note of iced tea.
The flavor is moderately/heavily bitter, lightly/moderately sweet, lightly acidic with a long, moderately bittersweet finish. More tea in the finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery/velvety and the carbonation is lively. Forgettable wavering on harsh.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow to light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Like any of a hundred other American pale ales, but it’s not bad for being run of the mill.

12 oz bottle purchased at Spirits on Rt 37. Poured an orangey/yellowish/amber with TONS of visible particles dancing around inside this beer. Aroma was pretty standard APA with moderate malts (grainy and slight caramel), moderate hoppiness (floral) and not much else going on. Flavor started bitter, finished bitter and had an average duration on the aftertaste. This beer is just slightly below averge with a flavor that is just a little to bitter and dry that distracts from the maltiness.

Bottle. Copper colored with nice citrusy hop aroma flavor of sweet malt only slightly dominated by the floral taste of the hops. Nice, fluffy white head that lasted to make a nice lacing on glass. Mine seemed to have just the faintest metallic taste. Overall, a very drinkable APA.

very pleasant beer; poured very well from the tap. Almost a sweet aroma with a dark brown appearance. Sits smoothly on the palate and equally as smooth going down. Not too strong of a flavor and goes well with any kind of meal. I would recommend especially when dining.

Orange in color with a medium thick off-white head. Aroma contains pears and a bit of hop. Nice crisp hops with, perhaps, a bit of a metallic finish. Overall rather decent. 12 oz/$2

Gold, with a 1 inch loose off-white head. Modest hop aroma, more resin than floral; some malt as well. Nice hop bite, fairly light body. Finishes a bit thin.

Pours clear copper with a good sized tan head. The aroma has toasted malt, soapy and tropical hops and some butteriness. Medium / light body with very sharp prickly carbonation. The flavor starts with malt, butter and some spicy hope - there is a bit of wateriness to it. The finish gets a bit metallic. A fair APA.
