Commercial Description:
This pale ale is medium-bodied with a golden amber color. It has a very pleasant hop character that integrates nicely with its smooth malt flavors.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

In the bottle from Beertopia. This is not a pretty beer. It pours dark gold with a large bubbled silly-looking fake white head. I get a caramel-like aroma mixed with some mild hop scents. This has a berry-like flavor, but it is very very fizzy and bloating to the drinker. Thin, thin watery body. This is overrated with only 28 reviews.

Bottle from Friar Tucks in Champaign, IL. Bottled April 07., Pours amber orange with a small white head and slight haze. Aroma is faint, but I pick up subtle hops and bread. Medium-light bodied with average carbonation. Flavor is not very complex. The malt profile of caramel and wet grains is overpowered by an uninteresting use of hops, which create a mild fruity and spicy bitterness. Finish is dry and slightly astringent. Nothing offensive, but rather boring considering the saturated market for this style.

Bottle poured a clear golden amber with a large lasting white head. Aromas of carmel, bread and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied crisp and slightly dry. Flavors of carmel, earthiness and hints of grapefruit rind and pine with a crisp moderatly bitter finish.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear light orange color. The bubbly white head reduced over a few minutes to a thin film. Aroma was delicate, but pleasant, with hints of citrus and malty caramel. Dry and citrusy on the tongue with a light biscuity malt flavor. A strange tartness came out which detracted.

Fluffy white head of rather large bubbles. Light carbonation. Bright golden orange in color. Kind of looks like apple juice. Nice hoppy aroma with some light gains and a bit of sweetness. Pretty hoppy and bitter flavor with plenty of grapefruit and a touch of floral hops. Light and crisp flavor. Pretty hopy and bitter lingering aftertaste. A pretty dang good APA.

Nice crystal clear pour of deep gold and copper hues. The half inch off white head lasted a couple of minutes. The aroma is tart sharp (spiny) grapefruit hops. I think I smell a faint sweetness way behind the hops. The taste is no surprise after what the aroma has brought forth. There is a big handful of grapefruit hop bitterness that has a strangle hold on the flavor. About midway there is a moment of sweeter grapefruit hop flavor and then pale malt sweetness. Nice tasting Pale.
