Commercial Description:
This pale ale is medium-bodied with a golden amber color. It has a very pleasant hop character that integrates nicely with its smooth malt flavors.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Good middle of the road american pale. Big on the hops with a strong pine/citrus hop finish. Light caramel malts up front, but its hop dominated.

Pretty nice straightforward grapefruit and pine hop aroma, a touch of new mown hay. Hints of caramel malts. Pale copper color, foamy head leaving thick lace. Balanced straightforward flavor, with moderate citric hop flavorings, a bready malt background, and a lightly bitter finish. Also, finish is dry, tending toward astringent. Straightforward as an adjective seems to really capture this one. Not bad, except for the astringency.

Rated 6/25/07. Slightly cloudy dark gold with a small white head that shrinks to a thin film. Good lacing. Mild carbonation. Aromas are malt and caramel. Flavor is caramel, toffee, malt, grassy hops, and a hint of pine. Buttery smooth body with a crisp hop finish. Reminds me of Samuel Adams Boston Lager, though not as robust or complex. Nice session pale ale.

Doughy, candied-fruity, western ale aroma. Golden, with a big, white cumulous head. Good label. Caramel, a bit astringent, tangy, tangerine pith bitterness. Medium body, oily mouth. Malty, sometimes mouthy. Nothing special. Turns out to be my 2200th rating.

Tallahassee, Fl - World Market - 12 oz bottle - part of a 10 pak of Summer Beers. Light copper pour, fluffy off-white head. good sticky lacing. Faint sprucey aroma, hint of caramel. Sublte citrus notes, some nuttiness, a hint of nectarines. Thick enough mouthfeel. Overall, a good standard APA.
