Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Pours amber with small head. Good balance between hops and malts both have subtle undertones in this one. Would try it again.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark red brown. Little white head with braids of lacing stick around. Aroma is sweet malts with piney hops. Some grapefruit is involved somehow. Soft maltyness flavor. Slight caramel. Soft, dry, drinkable, but boring.

Poured copper with minimal head. Metallic aftertaste affected my rating by quite a bit. Best thing about the beer was the label. Not bad, but nothing to make it stand out from the crowd.

I picked this up because of the dog on the bottle, which looks like my Trixie. But I was also pleased with the brew inside. A nice amber pour with a medium foamy head. Aroma is sweet fruit and hints of hops. Flavor is well balanced, with nuts and hop, and nice malty notes. Very drinkable.

(bottle - 12 oz) Amber in color with tan foam. Aroma is a little sweet with some good malt notes and a touch of hops. Flavor is smooth and balanced at the beginning. Slight nutty flavor at the start that gives way to a roasted malt and bitter hop finish. Not too bad.

Surprisingly enjoyable. Decent depth of flavor combining the first level of fruitness with some depth of malt. Good balance and drinkability.

Amber with big, foamy beige head / Plain, sweet, malty nose / Medium body, a little thin in the middle, with decent, hoppy finish / Simple, pleasant flavors of caramel / Nice, nothing special.
