| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 20, 2007 Expiration date might be 31 Aug 07 but then again that number might just be a batch code. Very dark pour for an English pale ale...sort of a reddish-brown. The flavor is a tad fruity rather than chocolate-like as the description implies. A medium mouth feel that is very drinkable. maltdog (518), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 20, 2007 More coppery than amber, but this was outdoors in twilight. Soft yellowish beige head. Super buttery/caramelly malt nose with briar fruit and herbal hop. Flavor: mild syrupy sweetness, a veritable farmers’ market of mixed berries, and smothering diacetyl. Light toasted malt taste. Jammy as hell. Flabby fruit juice mouthfeel. PEZ finish leads to faintest hop spice and conifer/Altoids aftertaste. Although the whole is better than the parts, the beer remains adequate, nothing more. SledgeJr (3003), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 16, 2007 In the bottle from Beertopia. Again, I am mystified as to how these Spanish Peaks beers can hover around a 3 rating. This one is not especially attractive: dark gold/light amber with a thin boring low-malt head. It doesn’t have any discernible aroma that leaves the memory with anything to recognize. Thin and watery in body with only a mild toasted malt flavor. Slightly metallic with a gypsum flavor. Hops are present but not assertive. A mild and underperforming beer. Slipstream (785), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 16, 2007 Updated: Jan 14, 2008This brew has a dark brass color and a fresh scent of malt and hops. It goes down smooth, with the hop flavor in command - fresh, but not too robust, with a light malty aftertaste. This is a pretty good English bitter. The brewer is located in Montana, but the beer is brewed in Maryland, not Montana and Colorado as the commercial description claims (huh?) The label has a painting of the owner’s black lab on it. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA
