Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a shaker. This ale poured a very dark amber color with a slim, beige head that quickly faded into a very thin layer of bubbles. No lace. Their was quite a bit of visible carbonation flying up the sides of the glass. The aroma was quite nice. It was made up of rich malt, and also some very sweet citrus and caramel notes. The flavor had a very faint malt presence to go along with a good amount of sweetness and bitterness. It seems like a tad more malt could have made this beer very, very good. The mouthfeel was light-bodied with a good does of carbonation, as mentioned earlier. Just a bit thin, and slightly watery feeling. That being said, this was still a very nice session brew.

Very drinkable. Just a little thin. Good balance between bitter and sweet, but palate is weak. 3.5 better than average but not excellent.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear amber-brown color. Head was off white and reduced quickly to a thin ring. Smelled of toffee, husky cereal grain, and a touch of molasses. Delicately sweet with hints of spicy malt, chocolate, and cherry.

Bottle (12oz). Poured deep ruby-copper, average creamy off-white head, decent lacing. Nice barley/grain aroma, lightly acidic funky herbal hops, a little sweet. The taste .... same malt profile, a little roasty, decent if weak herbal hop bittering, fairly balanced finish. Average, chewy body, very soft, mild everything - carbonation, bitterness, astringency, palate weight - pretty decent easy-drinker ... could have a bit more body and hop oomph

Single bottle from Total Wine. Pours a nice deep amber color with a small lingering head. Aroma is malty with a touch of what seems like chocolate. Taste is light, dry and a touch of caramel with a malty finish. Not bad.

Smooth and rich ale, this tasty beverage had a hearty aroma and a delicious, malty taste with a bit more than a ’touch’ of chocolate. Very nice.

12 oz bottle: Pours a nice dark amber. reddish cloudy pour with an off white head that lingers. Aroma is very nice malt aroma, a bit of smoke, caramel, and candy, with a light chocolate note and some coffee notes intermingled. Taste is a nice roasted malt texture, and some light chocolate cake note, caramel, and a very nice sweetness. Palate is lightly caramel with a nice sweetness, and somewhat dry. Overall, I like this brew for a English Pale Ale. Quite malty and flavorful.

pours a clear amber with a one finger stiff off white, light tan head. aroma is caramel roasted malt and hops with a little medicine and pine. has a light to medium body with ok lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma. has a little bite from the hops and a dry hop aftertaste. not bad of an amber really! also is a little sticky on the lips. have to hunt for whats in the aroma a bit but not bad. as it warms the hops comes out a little more in the flavor and aroma which was a plus.
