Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Very much in the English-style pale category, the malt character on this beer is the real winner. Well balanced with a rise of bittering hops in the finish, the nose of theis beer tells of grape, apricot and toffee. Nice bready with a hint of sweetness adds a layer of complexity that might have been otherwise squashed had the brewer chosen a more aggressive hop profile. nicely done!

Pours a clear caramel brown with a creamy off-white head that leaves behind delicate lace. The nose is of dark bread with light supporting notes of molasses and earthy hops. Light to medium-bodied with a soft graininess and sharp but short astringency at the finish. The flavor profile is of toasted malt with earthy hops in support, finishing a tad too astringent for my tastes. This is a decent session brew.
