Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

on tap...dark amber body with medium head..aroma of bitter, dry hops and earthy characteristics...flavor is very similar, seems a tad watered down, and is lacking any malt complexity...throw in a touch of spices to the floral mess

HAS A DECENT/SLIGHTLY WEAK FLAVOR MADE WORSE BY A CONFUSING BODY THAT IS TOO HEAVY FOR THIS LACK OF FLAVOR. EARTH AND CARAMEL BASE WITH HOPS COMING THRU MORE TO THE NOSE THAN THE TASTE. THE FLORAL CHARACTER IS OK AND HELPS SOME. UNFORTUNATE THAT FLAT IS A GOOD WORD HERE. THERE IS SOME COMPLEXITY HERE IN THE FLAVOR THAT I WILL ADD UP 1 TO A 2.9. A SIT AND DRINK IT BEER FOR THE RESIGNED!

Pours amber with a moderate head. strong hop aroma. Thin body with a strong hop flavor. A well balanced dark malt flavor with a caramel quality follows.

12 oz bottle. Deep amber beer with a thick tan head. Pretty boring mix of light caramel and toasted nuts. A bit of hoppy earthiness. Sweetish flavour and light bitterness. Meh

Never had a beer from Montana, so when I saw this in the store as a rather cheap single, I went for it. Pours out dark amber, almost light brown with a thin two finger head. Aroma of sweet malts and slight hop. Drinkable with some notes of caramel and a slight hop bitterness on the finish.

Pours dark amber with some faint lacing. Smells of sweet hops and caramel. It has a bitter floral hop taste to it. It wasn’t half bad at all.

Pours a very dark amber, almost cola colored, with a thin white head. Earthy hop aroma with a dash of caramel-like malt. Big hop bitterness up front ... a black peppery spiciness, maybe a cocoa-like bitterness or cinnamon without the tang, fading into a bittersweet finish. Decent lacing, pleasantly full mouthfeel, despite being medium bodied. Not bad overall.
