Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Bottle. Clear copper/dark amber with a cream colored frothy head. Spotty lacing. Cereal/caramel malt aroma with some fruity notes, grass and hops. Malty flavor with tart appley esters and mild hops in the back. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Fuller and tastier than I was expecting. Overall not a bad session.

Poured a burnt amber color. Toasted jelly bread like aroma. Toffee and caramel with sweet English malts. I would not like to drink more than a couple of these for it can get a bit cloying. Still and good brew worth trying.

Red cola colored... more orange than red, but somewhere within the dark amber category. 75-80% clarity in the glass. Flowery, but light hops. Light and sweet malt, smooth on the tongue, creamy on the sides. Very thin head when poured (bottle). Generally pleasant, but nothing exceptionally special. (Bottle Pour 4/2/2007)

From the tap it poured amberish brown in color. Thin tan colored head. Has hints of chocolate, toffee, and coffee malts. Sweet tasting with a slightly bitter bite at the end and finished sweet.

Bottle. Rich amber-garnet in color with an off white lingering thin head which yields to a nice sheet of lacing. Aroma is somewhat weak and indistinctive other than malty, but presents with thin body, sweet malty middle combined with some earthy toffee flavor and a smooth but hoppy finish. Would be a nice accompaniment to a variety of different foods (versatile).

Pours brown/red with thin head. Robust malt flavors for this style of brew. Very good. A bit of a sour flavor comes in after awhile. And the malt starts to get a bit of a graininess. But these are miniscule complaints. Mild bitterness adds nice balance to the brew. Overall, very good and very drinkable.
