Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

creamy off-white , somewhat thick head with impressive lacing; appearance is light brown with a ruddy tinge; aroma of candy & caramel; heavy carbonation; light-body; a very bitter and clean hoppiness at first, which gives way to a nice balance with subtle malts; inconspicuous alcohol; overall, it’s a decent brew

Doughy aroma along with candyish toffee , caramel nose, astringent feel. Dark amber with some retention to the head. Very malty.

Amber pour, with little head that goes away quickly. A decent hop flavor, that is not too strong. OK finish.

Toasted malty aroma. Some faint herbal hop notes as well. Mild and sweet malty flavor with a dash of dish soap. Grainy and herbal hop finish. Watery palate and kind of boring. Overall, just ok.

Pours a deep copper body with constant streams of effervescence under a creamy, off white head that leaves a wet lace. Brittle toffee malts in the nose with a mineral lean. Toasted malts emerge as she warms, as do some chocolaty notes. Full, dry palate. This is certainly a showcase for malts and has a pleasant cocoa flavor with bittersweet character. Quite good!

Bottle. Brown sugar malt aroma. Medium brown color with small head. Light brown sugar malt flavor - light flavor until the very end when a moderate hops kicks in. Not a bad beer - pretty hoppy for an EPA.

Not the worst beer I have had but not my favorite either. I know that I say that a lot. Hoppy but not overly so. Seems like a beer that I could get anywhere under two dozen different names. Nothing distinctive or rememberable about the beer

The malts and hops are not quite balanced. The taste of bitter hops takes a strong punch at first. Then the beer falls a bit thin. decent not great.
