Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Lacking some character but it has a nice hop flavor. I have a black lab so bought it for the bottle. Overall it is just so so.

Pours fairly dark amber with a soapy uneven light tan head. The aroma has clean spice with caramel malt and smooth sweetness. Medium creamy body with a good amount of semi-soft carbonation. The taste starts with some caramel malt with light toastiness and some sourness. The finish gets tinny and medicinal with a bit of spicy / woody hops. Not bad.

Bottle. Poured amber with a thin, short-lived head. Smells good but, too hoppy and bitter for my taste. Really not my style.

Aroma of malt and light fruit. Nice amber color, no head. Starts with a flowery malt taste, moving on to an enduring bitter. Really quite nice. Maybe there’s a hint of chocolate there.

The beer is a dark amber color. A caramel, raisin, and chocolate aroma. The flavor is quite malty with some caramel, figs, and toffee. No bitterness is detected whatsoever. The finish is a little weak is my only real complaint. Pretty good beer.

A malty english ale without much hops that somehow obtains some piney, citrus bitterness in the short finish. It is crisp and therefore quite drinkable. I rarely like amber beeers but this does achieve mediocrity.

Purchased a loose bottle of this at Varsity Pizza. Tastes pretty much like a standard good ale. Hops are noticable, but not really strong, making for an easy drinking beer. The taste is a little bitter and the Dog looks quite nice on the bottle. Nice pour, nice smell, nice brew. Worth trying.

Pour is a nice copper with a nice size white head. Aroma is a oily hop. Flavor is bitter and nutty with a weak caramel malt. Hops also show up in the flavor. Finish is thick but tasty. Pretty good brew.
