Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

12 oz bottle, raided from relative’s fridge. Pours a clear dark amber under a small creamy film of beige head. Lazy streams of gentle bubbles rise. Aroma is lightly hoppy with a light caramel and toffee malt base. Some doughy malt notes as well. Flavor is very lightly bitter with alot of cereal grains and a light nuttiness as well as touches of toffee. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation. Finishes a little sticky. Overall, a decent drinker, but there just wasn’t a whole lot to get excited about.

Got this one bottled from my father-in-law out west. Beautiful dark brown pour with a tan head, lots of hoppiness and coffee bitterness in the nose, continuing throughout and onto a crisp, clean finish. A spark of chocolate sweetness early. Different, but good.

Nice looking dark brown color makes for an appetizing appearance. I expected more bitters but found at least as much hops as bitters. Just a bit of malt. Nice drinking beer but not really memorable.

12 oz bottle-Poured a clear ruby red color w/a small off white head. Roasted aroma of hops & grain. Up front hops w/a touch of caramel, nuts & toffee. Has a clean, crisp, bittersweet finish which is kind of short. It’s not bad, but there are better examples out there.

Bottled. Pours a clear amber with a lacy off-white head. The body tends to light. Some fruit and herbal notes in the rather faint aroma. Tast of toffee and not much else. Bittersweet finish that gets more bitter/piney towards the bottom of the glass.

This ale looked good and smelled good but the taste left me hanging. A slight hop at the start, but finished with a grainy textured malt leaving a funny taste in my mouth. Average.
