Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

On Tap at Kahootz Deep "amber" color, small pale head, slight traces of lacing. Mild and fairly sweet malt aroma, little hop bitterness. Flavor was quite sweet, malty and a bit papery. Very little hops, but not unpleasant. Very softly carbonated. Smooth light feel and no bitterness, malty trailer as well. An amber.

Bottle: Dark coppery color, moderate frothy off-white head, spotty lacing, no noticeable carbonation.   Slight roasted malt nose, a tad grainy, and even a bit of overcooked vegetables.   Malt oriented on the tongue, slightly sweet, a touch of peat and mash.   Has a slight twang on the finish.   Somewhat pale, or light, in comparison to your standard pale.   Very low hop profile.   Tiz alright, but nothing I would seek out again.

Bottle into glass. Pours a blackish amber color. Somewhat of a malty aroma with a tiny bit of hops. Flavor is very bitter, which moves right into a not-so-good bitter finish. Wasn’t very impressed by thiis one.

Dark amber, clear with nice carbonation visible. Thick creamy light tan head. A very malty aroma to this one, caramel malts, some slight "sense" of hops. Good malt based flavours, quite fruity in aspect and a small touch of hops in the end. Not a bad mouthfeel, but just a tad on the thin side for the style. A nice simple drinkable pale ale. nothing exciting but nothing bad.

Bottle. Murky, brown/ rust color with an ivory head. Very sweet malty aroma. Notes of caramel, toast and malt. Kind of barley wine-esque aroma. Thin-ish mouth feel with some more caramel, malt, toffee, chocolate, cinnamon and a bit of bitterness. Sweet finish. Actually pretty good even though I didn’t expect to like it.

<!-- b -->[Bottle]<!-- /b --><!-- br --> A nice amber colored brew with a very light to missing nose. The head was frothy and nice. The flavor was plain nothing with this brew. The fruit beer rocks. This was a average amber brew with not much character. I hope the next brews are better. Good Luck Black Dog Brewing....

12 oz. brown, longneck bottle. No freshness date seen. Weak pfftt when opened. Poured out a deep amber, light brown color. Weak, soapy white head faded fast. Aromas are of roasted malts, some chocolate notes. Not much in hops aromas. Flavors are of roasted malts, some caramel, slightly sour finish. A little dark for an English Pale Ale by anyone’s standards. Weak finish, thin body. Not the best I ever had.
