Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Bottle: Amber color, retentive creamy tan head, lots of lacing. The nose is lightly caramelly with some roast and a touch of crispy hops. The flavor has a moderate body with more metallic notes that blend with the hop bitterness and the subtle roast. The finish is chewy. Decent but it isn’t cohesive.

sour malt nose, brown clear body, almost no head, tart flavor, nothing here really could use a lot more in the flavor dept.

Sweet, nutty aroma; fairly light bodied malty flavor with a flowery and perfumey hop finish; some butterscotch and metallic notes; rather rough palate for such a light beer; meh.

b>Bottle: Nothing special to write home about. Average tasting beer with a nice effort towards a balanced hop/malt makeup. I agree with Aubrey, but will stick with the lower rating.

Deep chestnut brown. Toasty-sweet nose. Rich texture; kind of chewy at times, and lighter other times. Very roasted and toasty, with a solidly sweet toffee base. Alcohol nips in toward the finish. Grassy, earthy hops surface right after the swallow, providing a decent amount of bitterness to scrub away the sweetness. Strange burnt aromas were a little too overbearing -- reminiscent of charcoal and black patent.

Bottle. Poured dark amber with a large frothy off-white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and light hop aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Heavy sweet caramel malt flavor with a average smooth finish.

One bottle from BOTW. Poured a deep amber color with a slight offwhite head. Aroma is malty and sweet. Flavor is much the same. I’m didn’t get much hop flavor in this brew at all. Tthis has a medium body and is drinkable.

Had a standout spice aroma along with fermented fruit. Murky Amber body with off white head. Flavor had more of a malt backbone. Flavor was fruity, spicey and some hop bitterness. Went down like sludge and just sits in the gut, didn’t care for that.
