Commercial Description:
An English style special amber ale. This ale's full body imparts a distinctive malty, robust palate and fruity bouquet. Brewed from pale malted barley, Munich, crystal, carastan and a touch of chocolate malts, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Oily! Not much spice in this one. This is a simple, flat brew that lacks character or many flaws.

Pours a medium brown with a stringy white head; looks quite good, I wasn’t quite expecting it to look this good. Decent smell, malts and caramel. Nice creamy mothfeel, tastes a little weak, but still quite good! Very nice!

Not very memorable of an ale. Don’t necessarily agree with its description as full body and robust. It did have some hints of caramel and some kind of fruit, but nothing great.

Crystal clear, amber/orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Excellent retention and terrific, weeping lacework. The aroma is a bit breadsy and soapy. The flavor is well-balanced, but pretty bland. Tastes and smells like a mediocre English Bitter. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and light carbonation. Lengthy, tangy finish.

This really wasn’t much of a pale ale. I guess I just like the American version of the style, but this was rather mild and dark, almost like a brown ale.

(Brewed and bottled by Mendocino Brewing NY)Sweet dark and malty. Straddles the line between an amber ale and a nut brown ale.

Mahagony color, has fruity apricot/hoppy nose with some light caramel in the taste, medium to light bodied.

This bottled brew poured a small head of off white colored fine to medium sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was a transparent softly carbonated light bron colored one and the aroma was musty doughy and malty. It made me sneeze though. It had a tingly mildly bitter mouth feel with a slightly lingering finish. The flavor was sweet malt and dough with some bitterness. A easy drinking ale that would be good to just sit and drink at the bar.
