Commercial Description:
A light bodied amber ale made with wildflower honey and natural raspberry. These ingredients, combined with five domestic and imported malted barleys, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast, creat a unique, fruity ale with a soft palate and a touch of sweetness.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

12 oz. loose bottle from Binny’s of Willowbrook. Pours a little murky at first, than an intriguing shade of brown with pinkish overtones, very brief head. Smell is okay, definite raspberry. But actual taste comes in rather weak. Notes of honey at least, but raspberry comes in like a light syrup. Lacks a substantial beer backbone which might have made this work.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange with a huge and very fizzy head that sticks around for a while.

The aroma is strong sweet raspberries and honey.

The flavor is pretty washed out and watery with some acidic fruits and a bit of a metallic bitter finish. The mouthfeel is light bodied with a ton of sharp carbonation.

Overall, not a very good beer. I thought I might be pleasantly surprised from the look and smell of the beer. But the flavor is subdued, bland and a bit off and it’s way too carbonated.

The pour is burnt orange, with little to no white head bubbles. The aroma is of sweet raspberries. The flavor starts very sweet, then grows into a very berry flavor. the Finish is of sweet dry malts. An enjoyable fruit beer.

not too impressive. maybe too much honey? raspberry wasn’t very tangy, and there is almost no aftertaste.

Poured a copper with amber red tones which become more prominent when held to the light. Good head retention at the beginning but decreases and eventually disappears over time. No lace to speak of. The smell is potent raspberries. Really nothing else is noticeable but as whole it is not overpowering in any sense. The taste is sweet with raspberry flavor. I guess from the smell I expected more of a raspberry taste, but it is still noticeable. In the background there is a sweeter malt but is a little surprising with the color. The honey is not really detectible. At the end there is a sweet after taste that leaves a somewhat filmy taste. The body is light as is the carbonation. Overall it is just a super sweet fruity beer. Nothing to write home but not necessarily bad.

Redish amber color with a frothy head that does a vanishing act. Malty nose with hints of raspberry. Flavor starts with a maltiness and a hint of raspberries but finishes with a raspberry taste that is slightly fake/artificial.

Bottle: Red-tinged amber, with a tightly bubbling foam top, but quite still. The aroma is restrained, but hints at some fruit that’s promised on the label. The berries shine thru a little bit in the drink, but not in an over the top way. Instead, this is a pleasantly balanced, sweet and quite drinkable beer -- even for people that don’t like beer, probably. (#3346, 3/16/2008)

Mostly-clear light amber with orange highlights. Thick and fizzy eggshell head quickly fades. Overpowering raspberry in the nose with slight undertones of honey and malt. Sweet like a soda up front, to a middle of barely noticeable malt and hops and finishes very tart. Tastes more like an slightly odd-flavored soda (or perhaps a malternative) than a beer.
