Commercial Description:
A light bodied amber ale made with wildflower honey and natural raspberry. These ingredients, combined with five domestic and imported malted barleys, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast, creat a unique, fruity ale with a soft palate and a touch of sweetness.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Pours a medium amber with faint head and above average carbonation. Aroma is pretty weak and I did not even pick up much fruitness at all. Flavor has a little more fruit in it but still nothing special. Sort of a waxy taste.

honeyish with hints of raspberry but otherwise a pretty weak ale with unsatisfactory finish.

4/29/2007: Sampled at the River’s Bend Belgian Workshop / Abbey Dubbel Brewout held at Ken’s house... Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale pours a clear golden yellow color with a small off-white foamy head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is raspberry, weak honey, and light malts (toasted and/or light caramel). The flavor is fake raspberry with some weak caramel/toffee malt underneath. The body is medium-light and the palate is soft. I don’t mind fruit beers and some of them I really love, but this one is barely drinkable for me...

12 oz bottle.

5/30/2007: Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale is amber-orange in color, transparent and has a thin ivory head that leaves some thin lacing. The aroma is delicate raspberry with a dollop of sweet honey. The flavor has some generic malt and the raspberry is not very noticeable. There also appears to be a taste clash with something else in there. The medium-light body seems watery and thin toward the finish. Still not quite my cup of tea...

Fruity nose. Fake fruity cereal, but cherry-raspberry tartness. Kind of gassy. Very little hops, with sweet raspberry hits. Medium amber clear with some raspberry reddish tint. Thin foamy, quickly dissipating head. Medium to light watery body with medium carbonation. Starts watery, with very little fruity or malty sweetness, though there is some raspberry flavor. Can’t really taste honey. Overall, very watery and quite a dud. Finish is mild, with no bittering. After is dull with a bit of fruity sweetness. Boring.

I love the color of this ale. Orange or almost apricot amber color. Very refreshing, Its not sweet like leinenkugel berryweiss, this beer finishes well with hints of rasberry. I liked it and would buy it again, great summertime beer.

Pours a light golden orange with a medium white lively head. Sweet malty head with some honey and mild fruits. Thin watery taste with a mild malty flavor. The flavor does have some nice honey notes towards the end, but the weak wateryness ruins the beer. Not much raspberry there either. Not much body to speak of.

This beer that showcases the flavors of raspberries is quite nice. It shows a decent ale that balances nicely with the fruit and honey flavors. I say give it a shot!

The 12 ounce bottle poured a crystal clear medium amber beverage with a small fizzy off-white head that was entirely diminishing and left no lacing on the glass. The aroma was surprisingly exactly like fresh picked raspberries - both light and refreshing. The body was medium-light with average carbonation and a dry texture. The flavor starts out lightly sweet but the raspberries don’t smack you in the face. It is kept subtle. The finish takes on a dryness that is refreshing and clean.
