Beaver (474), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Mar 27, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange with a huge and very fizzy head that sticks around for a while.
The aroma is strong sweet raspberries and honey.
The flavor is pretty washed out and watery with some acidic fruits and a bit of a metallic bitter finish. The mouthfeel is light bodied with a ton of sharp carbonation.
Overall, not a very good beer. I thought I might be pleasantly surprised from the look and smell of the beer. But the flavor is subdued, bland and a bit off and it’s way too carbonated.
Dandman629 (10), Ashburn, Virginia, USA Aug 28, 2008 This beer sounded real interesting... Honey Raspberry Ale. The aroma has the light hint of raspberry. The beer has a light copper tone almost appears purple. The first tast of this beer is really bitter, with an artificial raspberry flavor. Aside from the bitterness the beer goes down smoth. Definitly not my beer of choice. But if you like that taste of sour patch kids and beer... then this is your drink!!!! JK (2394), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Aug 26, 2008 Very light artificial raspberry aroma and flavor. Light gold color. A hot weather beer that is short on flavor. iride15 (112), Sanford, Florida, USA Aug 24, 2008 Flavor was a bit underdone, and the honey-raspberry combination was a little to sweet without the body or bite. otakuden (70), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2008 Poured a deep amber orange with tinges of pink within its body. A very generous head of at least a couple fingers rises to the top before fading into a slim ring around my glass. The nose is rather faint, though I do detect hints of fresh honey and raspberry, maybe a bit of sweet malt notes. The first quaff is almost overwhelming in its sweetness. The body isn’t heavy so it doesn’t coat and linger in the mouth, but the overwhelming honey sweetness overpowers almost any other flavor profile. A few sips later, I start to detect faint notes of raspberry, but still the honey is prominent on my tastebuds. I almost detect a hint of sweet summer melon later in the body, mingling with the honey as the raspberries linger in the after-taste.
Overall, a rather underwhelming flavored beer. I’ve had honey beers and I’ve had raspberry beers, and unfortunately the Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale marriage of the two is far to cloistering sweet. There may be those who enjoy it, but she is not pleasing to my palate. ChainGangGuy (1524), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Aug 20, 2008 Appearance: Pours an amber body with a quickly dieing, white head.
Smell: Straight-up scent of raspberry-flavored cough syrup. Ugh. Look ashamed, Spanish Peaks Mascot Dog!
Taste: Pale malts with a caramel sweetness and a hint of toothsome honey. Then BANG it’s the slighty off-putting raspberry taste. Citrusy, earthy hops with a medium bitterness. The hops can scrub away the sweetness, but can’t manage to loosen that gacky raspberry flavoring from my tongue. Sip of Perrier. Drying, faux raspberry finish.
Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied. Just barely above medium carbonation.
Drinkability: I would’ve much preferred the base beer minus the natural raspberry flavoring. Whaddya say, Spanish Peaks? Think we can swing that?
