The flavor is nutty, or a woodchippy flavor, with a gritty malt undertone. Not great. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 23, 2004 Hazy orange-amber body under a lasting fluffy white head that leaves attractive lacing. Dry corn husky aroma an assertive hop aroma I can’t put my finger on. They’re sort of a cross between sprucey and grapefruity hops, and "darker" and stronger in a sense. Not much malt sweetness in the flavor, there’s a light background of roasty malt but those same hops are the featured component. A very servicable APA. Goblincat (357), Westland, Michigan, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2004 (12 oz bottle) This is a nice, simple pale ale. It’s quite malty, with a moderate hoppy bitterness that somewhat balances the maltiness, but is mostly there in a supporting role. The flavor profile is consistent from start to finish. Light to medium bodied, a bit thin on mouthfeel, but not quite in the watery range either. The nose echoes the flavor, solidly malty, mildly hoppy. We also have an attractive beer here, golden apricot color and slightly hazy. Off-white head is of average size during the pour, settling to a thin layer, but it leaves a significant amount of delicate lacing on the glass. It may not be a complex beer, but it’s very enjoyable, easy to drink, something I’d buy a six-pack of and keep in the fridge just to have some decent brews to drink when I don’t feel like rating beers. Too bad I won’t have that option much longer, as Spanish Peaks is now out of business.
