Commercial Description:
Summer White is faithful to the Belgian wheat style with its light body, cloudy color and touch of spices. A complex but refreshing ale perfect for summer drinking.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Tallahassee, Fl - World Market - 12 oz bottle - part of a 10 pak of Summer Beers. Very murky light orange pour with a soft, but thin white head. Cloves and banana in the aroma - a tad contrived - but pleasant. Bubblegum flavor with hints of coriander with a lemony back end. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick and it makes a decent summer refresher. Fades a bit in the finish and gets a bit artificial tasting.

Bottle. Spice (coriander) with banana. Flavor has a spice, lemon (citrus) and yeast flavor. A pretty decent Witbier (though I’m partial to witbier). A good, decent addition by Flying Dog.

Cloudy yellow pour with a lot of active carbonation streamers and a thick, fluffy head that will not go away. Coriander and banana aroma. Slightly creamy mouthfeel and strangely, not very carbonated. Spicy taste with a bit of lemon and some yeast towards the finish. Unfortunately the finish is watery, dry and a bit bland to tell the truth. Overall it’s OK... flying dog makes good middle of the road beers. I like their imperial porter a lot though.

In the bottle at the Crescent Moon Sunfest. Cloudy pale yellow witha big white head. Chunks of flocculent matter remain suspended in the glass. The aroma is very spicy: cloves and bananas. Lemon flavor but little else. The aroma is the best part of the beer.

Pours a cloudy light yellow with a lot of floaties, a lot of bubbles and a large rocky, white head. The nose is a traditional witbier and one of it’s strongest characteristics: orange, coriander and a light yeast/dough in the background. Very thin, almost watery, with a dry crisp finish. The flavor is a decent sweet citrus front and wheaty coriander middle. That, however, is followed by a dry, funky, phenolic finish. The end kills this one for me, but I tend to be more sensitive to some flavors than others.

Total score is decieving. This wheat beer is not bad, its very crisp. Unusally bright yellow color. reminds me of a saison (smell, palate)

Bottle. Nice fluffy head. Nice lacing on glass. Poured cloudy yellow, citrusy smell. Lots of yeast. Fruity citrusy spicy flavor that I found very refreshing. I guess I liked this more than most on this site.

Bottle. Poured cloudy yellow-gold and bubbly with lots of yeast floaties and a moderate soft-structured white foamy head. Webbed lacing in the glass. Yeasty (banana/gum) and bready malt aroma, with some mild peppery coriander in the nose. Flavor was slightly sweet and mildy citric, with the spice/peel bitter character coming through on the finish. I think it’s too thin in the palate for a good Wit, and I’d prefer a little more substance in the mouthfeel. Then again, for a summer thirst quencher it’s basically OK, especially considering all the bland wheat beers/golden ales out there.
