Commercial Description:
This is the German version of the beer, described by Jackson in the 2000 Pocket Beer Book as "much paler (than Oktoberfest-Marzen in the US), golden, albeit still with a creamy aroma and pleasant malt accent."

Bottle at Bedford-Bamberg Spring Fest ’09. Gold with a large white head. Yeast and sweet malt in the aroma. Sweet malty taste and a great deal of fizz. Some bitterness. To be honest, I thought this was a bit dull.

It poured a clear pale yellow liquid with a small foam that dissapeared fast and left no lacing. The smell was weak with some white bread. Smooth and watery with some malt and bread. It wasn’t bad, just very boring. Last time I tried this beer it had some honey in it, it also had an odd aftertaste and small bits floating around. I thought it had gone bad.

On draft at the Brau Haus in Hot Springs. The owner assured me that this was indeed the festbier and not the marzen. Pour a clear light amber with good offwhite head. The sweet malty caramel aroma reminds me of a vienna lager. Biscuit, butter, toast, and caramel malty flavor. Pretty tasty, but nothing overly special.

On tap at the flying saucer in KC. Pours a light red-orange with a thick, frothy white head. Remains a little lacy after a slow dissipation. Aroma is typical in an Oktoberfest. Heavy sweet malts with hints of spices and bittering hops. Taste is very similar although the body is much fuller and creamier than others I’ve had. Finishes smooth and slightly carbonated. Overall, an average beer, but well balanced and enjoyable.

This comes out of the tap an appetizing dark amber brown with a fine-bubbled head. Aroma is rich, crisp and malty, somewhat like a typical lager but a little fuller. Flavor is mouth-filling, crisp and malty. Texture is smooth. Finish is pleasant and mild, and has a hint of hops.
