Pours dark brown with a small head. Aromas of toasted malts and big time caramel. Taste was, again, hard on the caramel with some nice malts and a little alcohol coming through. Nothing spectacular coming through, but extremely solid nonetheless.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark mahoagony with a small light tan head that leaves decent lacing. The nose is dark fruits and caramel malts. Taste is prunes, molasses, caramel and burnt brown sugar with light hops in the finish. Medium, semi-creamy mouth feel. A touch sweet for me but this is a well put together beer.

Big bubbles, a head that disappears quickly. Taste is slightly complex malts, caramel, toast...but I thought it would be better.

(11/15/08) Bottle at friends’ house in Philadelphia. Dark brown color with a big stable beige head. Big malty aroma with caramel and toasted dark bread. Sweet malty flavor with caramelly sugariness, some dark bread notes and light fruity hints. Medium-bodied. Pretty good.

Kinda light for a doppelbock. Which is a good thing. Tan foam, caramel malts. Nice carbonation as well. Would like to try this again.

Great caramel flavor combined with heavy malt, perfect bitterness, well-balanced and heavy, finishes sweet and dry.
