| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 25, 2008 Dark cola brown pour with relatively disappointing off white head. Should have poured more aggressively, I suppose. Aroma is like Spaten Munich but amped up... pretty distinctive malt character. Also brown sugar, caramel, some raisin notes. Palate and taste not as complex as hoped for, but very nice overall... toffee, malt, brown sugar, caramel... and many more synonyms for sweet. Seems like a good food beer, but not my fave. mgermani (865), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2008 Pours a deep ruby-red with an off-white lasting head and some lacing. Aroma is funky/sweaty sweet munich malt. Tastes lightly toasted, diacetyl, dates, nice finish. Thick body, viscous and moderately carbonated. Well executed, but not terribly exciting. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2008 One of the better Dopplebock’s I have tried, but I am not a huge fan of the style. I had a six pack when I was in Florida and had one every day for dinner for a week. It does assault your palate after a while, but has a rich color and strong taste of bitter malt. kiefdog (1629), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 22, 2008 On tap at MJ Barleyhoppers on 6/21/08. Pours a dark mahogany color with a thin white-tan head. Aroma is malt, raisins, brown sugar, and spice. Flavor is sweet, malty, ripe grapes, raisins, and sugar plums with a nutty finish. Medium-bodied mouthfeel with a slightly bitter finish. benwa420 (47), East Hampton, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 22, 2008 I was expecting something great. Not saying it sucked but didn’t meet expectations that I had hear. Got a nice on the sweeter side amber flavor. But doesn’t last on the palate. elihapa (1067), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2008 2/19/08 notes: bottle from six pack. Aroma is of faint malts and brown sugar. Pours a solid brown color, not too thick. Initial flavor is mellow with faint hops and grass, but quickly develops into firm alcohol and sweet brown sugar base. Goes down dry and easy, one of the best dark session beers I’ve tried. This is my first doppelbock, and it was interesting. I recommend this beer. johntreeter (122), Greenwood, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 20, 2008 16.9 oz. bottle. Pours a deep dark amber with nice fluffy light tan head that left moderate lacing. Aroms of malt, sweet brown sugar and earth. Flavor is of wheat and malt with notes of anise, caramel, and a little alcohol; and the finish was well balanced with the sweetness passing quickly fallowed by a nice flavorful linger. Medium to light on the palate with dry texture and soft carbonation with warm light alcohol finishing feel. An excellent doppelbock and I’m not that big on them, but I will have this one again. Hopefully on tap, say in Munich.
