Bottle. Pours with no head, clear, dark, dark brown. Aroma of coffee and banana. Taste is light for a doppelbock, with all the requisite flavors as well as a little coffee and bubblegum. Pleasant.

Funny, I’m not really getting the same experiences as the rest of you are. This is my beer of choice when I go to my favorite bar, Red Lion, in LA. Don’t get me wrong, it’s different than a sipping beer, but I love the full-bodied taste, the sweet/bitter after taste, and the crisp finish. It does leave that caramel, heavy sweetness feeling in your mouth like you get after drinking Coca Cola, but a glass of cold water along with it really finishes it up nicely. I love Optimator.

I like the color. Had an interesting allure. Smell could have been better, but I’m not complaining. Rather light taste, but a good beer overall

Pale, nothing special. You can taste the alcohol from time to time. Skunky. Could have been a dated bottle fom a store that primarily seels 30 packs. I’d get it again though.

Some times I really like and sometimes I just can’t palate it. Can be a little too sweet at times. Nice roasted flavors and bready maltiness.

very average and forgettable, clear mahagony color and white head which diminishes quickly w/o at trace. would make a good base for a beef barley or fall vegetable soup. Not complex at all. Can’t understand the high rating.

Good but not great. Im pretty sure I got an old bottle. I popped the top, and all I smelled was skunk. Tasted pretty good though, albeit a bit strong on the nose with the alcohol. Very sweet, medium hoppiness, and bitterness. Not bad.
