| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 25, 2007 very average and forgettable, clear mahagony color and white head which diminishes quickly w/o at trace. would make a good base for a beef barley or fall vegetable soup. Not complex at all. Can’t understand the high rating. BeerloverEJ21 (131), Georgia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 23, 2007 Good but not great. Im pretty sure I got an old bottle. I popped the top, and all I smelled was skunk. Tasted pretty good though, albeit a bit strong on the nose with the alcohol. Very sweet, medium hoppiness, and bitterness. Not bad. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark reddish-brown body with a small, off-white head.
Smell: Somewhat sweet-smelling aroma of carob, dark fruits, and apples.
Taste: Mild dark caramel flavor mixed with some carob sweetness. Accompanying notes of dark fruits and chewing tobacco. Very minor hint of apple. Only a faint amount of hop spiciness, but no real bitterness. Touch of alcohol on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s a pleasant middle-of-the-road doppelbock. Hazmatt (363), Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Bottle. Drank from the bottle so no comment or deductions for appearance. Will re-rate. Caramel malt aroma. Very rich malt character with notes of molasses. Some roast qualities as well. Very good for a green bottle brew. demitriustown (708), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2007 12 oz bottle: Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, caramel and a little bit of nutty goodness. Poured a almost coca-cola like black with a medium sized tan head that diminishes into a soapy tan foam at the top of the glass. Taste is caramel malts, roasty, somewhat chalky, chocolate cake, and a bit of espresso too. Palate has a lingering malt texture and is quite carbonated and bubbly. Overall, Not a bad Doppelbock IMO. Not bad at all Cletus (5060), Connecticut, USA

Pours a garnet hue with a big brown head. Has a black licorice sweet smell. Taste is a strong, dark caramel, black licorice and chocolates. Full bodied, almost syrupy mouthfeel. Finishes with a slight bitter alcohol taste.
This brew tastes best at warmer temps. 60-65 degrees.Oct 2003
