Sweetish caramel taste with toffee and raisins. Alcohol shows through. Lots of malt, could use better balance. KyotoLefty (1461), Kyoto, Japan
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2009 Bottle. Medium to dark brown with a large, creamy, off-white head.
Full of aroma: caramel, dark malts, some hops, chocolate, dried fruits.
Sweet and malty. Caramel and chocolate flavors. A touch of alcohol taste, which works to balance a little. Very lightly hopped. Could use a little more to balance it out better. Malt is rich and thick but not very complex. Finish of roasted malt (slightly drying), a touch of hops and alcohol, and malt. A decent bock, but too much on the sweet side for me.
