~Big roasted caramel and malts on the nose as well as some dark fruits such as raisin.
~Sweet biscuit malt flavor with prune, dark chocolate and raisin.
~Creamy medium feel with carbonation. A bit sickly sweet in finish and sticky.
~Pleasantly surprised by this one as I was expecting a pale lager for some reason. Lots of malt in this one. A tasty after dinner drink. A bit sweet for my taste. ericandersnavy (1129), crossroads, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 19, 2009 Pour from 12oz bottle. Deep amber/brown color, thin off white head. Aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Delicious malty flavor with caramel and roasted grain overtones. Not an undifferentiated sugary blast of malt syrup, but rather a refined, well balanced, yet heavy malt flavor. A classic indeed. tylerss20 (101), New Hampshire, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 18, 2009 Get rid of the green bottles! This is a solid offering from Spaten that probably loses a step or two on it’s way to me in OKC. Not as sweet as most Doppels, and a tad acidic. But complex and good overall.
