Swalden_28 (557), McKinney, Texas, USA Dec 20, 2007 Ohhh yeah, this was good stuff!,,,had one 1 hour ago. Pours a great deeeep red color, could be brown, terrific aroma. ahhhh, the smell...then it hits the tounge and a party starts.....wasn’t aware it had 7.2% alcohol, and I was on empty stomach...hit quicky! very nice....Very malty taste, the head was thick and did not want to go away. VERY malty flavor, still on my tounge, other beer taste like crap after drinking this within 30 min. Still not as great as a Celebrator, but pretty close! Very rich taste. Now I have to go to Germany!!!!
DonKi11uminati (9), , California, USA does not count Aug 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark and heavy like German tank oil. Generous lingering tan head and lacing. Right from the pour this looks serious and inviting. Aroma has caramel, chocolate, and malt. Feels properly full and heavy on the palate like a doppelbock should. Carbonation is light and pleasant. Flavor starts with some caramel and toffee sweetness which usher in rich roasted malt and chocolate. Light hops lead to some good bitterness on the finish and only a hint of alcohol that belies its higher A.B.V. Well -balanced and complex. This is a very satisfying beer, and the best quality for the money (and availability) that I’ve encountered. A mainstay for sure. topcup (4), kutztown, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Aug 29, 2008 12oz bottle. nice head. lots of sweet roasted malt. slight molasses. Nice Doppelbock especially for the price. daknole (683), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2008 well I had small glass of this today and then just realized I had never rated this. I have had it many times and I have always liked this one. Brown pour wtih a fair sized beige head. Aroma is malty and sugary. Flavor is caramel, toffee, malts, dried fruit and some yeast. well done. MrBeerFanatic (201), jamestown, New York, USA Aug 22, 2008 Poured medium light brown with a slowly dissipating tan head. Aroma of toffee, grain, and slightly roasty. Most of the aromas come though over to the flavor with an added oats and a slightly noticable alcoholic finish. Bitter finish. Not bad for a new beer at Tops. Overall a pretty decent Doppelbocker. badlizard (1437), San Diego, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 ON tap at german place. Dark brow with a creamy tan head. Wheat grain aroma and taste with a crisp oat taste to the finish.
