Sample at GABF 2009. Pours a dark brown to black with tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of roast, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, light wood, light smoke. Flavor is about the same. Generally medium body with a warming alcohol finish.

Growler. Aroma of gently roasted malt, hints of vanilla and oak. Flavor much richer and maltier than the nose anticipated, roast continues to be present but gentle, in favor of pure, dark maltiness with hints of chocolate, meshing with a vanilla sweetness. Nearly hidden tannic notes. Bourbon presence mild but effective; I wouldn’t say I ever got straight bourbon, but the influence was definitely there in the chocolate notes and a certain vinous character. Nice stuff.

Growler from Big Z Beverage. Pours black with a small light tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, sweet roasted malt. Flavor of roasted malt, sweet malt, lactose. Only a slight bourbon presence, if at all. Overall, this is a decent imperial porter and rather drinkable for a 10% abv. 7/4/7/4/15 [3.7/5]

Growler from Big Z. Poured a reddish black with a thin head. Bourbonny, molasses and smokey nose. A big full flavor for a porter with a medium to full bodied mouthful. Definitely has a kick to it both flavor and booze wise. Some roasted malts with some sweetness but definitely drinkable

Growler from Big Z. Poured an opaque brown color with a small beige head. Sweet roasted malt with notes of coffee, rye, chocolate and light vanilla and ash. Some alcohol as it warms. Sweet roasted malt with a coffee middle and bourbon finish. Mild and not distracting. Spicy rye finish. Warming but no alcohol taste. Light-medium body with a smooth mouth.

Draft. Pours a black body with a tan head. Coco, vanilla, bourbon and oak, some soy and rye. Licorice and a mild warming. A bit messier than the base beer. Still nice overall.
