Appearance did not prepare my senses for the onslaught of hop aroma and flavor in this potent IPA. Wonderful, brazen flush of chinook and cascades with excellent bitterness profile. A sapid and quaffable IPA. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2007 Updated: Dec 18, 20092009-10-18, draught at Rattle ’n Hum, New York, 8-3-7-3-15=36 Deep blond color. Nice aroma of hops and toffee. Medium bodied, dryish toffee flavor, citrusy and resiny hopping. Good.
2007-10-03, bottle at Freaking Frog, Las Vegas, 6-4-7-4-15=36 Hazy orange-amber color. Medium aroma strength, hops, cream. Better flavor, some sweet malt and a lot of toffee, with a strong hopping, a bit resiny; quite good body structure. Long and powerful, but balanced, final. sickassmick (82), Concord, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Sort of confused about some of the other reviews on appearance. This stuff is really cloudy. Seems like a kinda soggy box so this might have been sitting for a while. High enough abv to age somewhat... This almost has an aged taste to it.. The malt seems less sweet, more alcohol-ish, but the result is very smooth. The hops aren’t too overwhelming at this point. Tastes a little burnt, tiny hints of sour. Is there a way to check how old this box is?
I almost don’t feel like I’m giving a fair review. One thing I can say is that I haven’t had much "aged" beer, but I’ve had some old beer that was in the 5% range and it was awful. This is still drinkable and interesting. Not really getting as much hop as I would have expected. Appearance, soggy box, etc. I’ll probably re-rate this one. Love the gangster theme of the bottle!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 11, 2007 Stunning aroma of Granny Smith apple that mingles with pungent (Cascade?) hops. Big boomy palate that fills the mouth with delight. Gorgeous pour that leaves long-lasting lace. Relatively balanced with a pine resin undertone. I like it! goldbrew (99), USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 10, 2007 Grapefruit aroma. Indeed heavy on the piny hops and a quick finish. Best odd way I can describe it is an ephemeral experience with a gossamer-like taste. Decent for the style. I wouldn’t pass up a bottle but neither will I be eagerly looking for one.
