Starts with that great citrus hop (maybe some grapefruit) quickly followed by a little malt, and then it slides into persisting hoppiness. This has goodness, if not greatness. eckerljj (7), oxford, Ohio, USA does not count | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 22, 2007 an average pale ale, I like the look of the bottle, but the beer was just ok. poured a clear honey color with little head. I could taste the hops and a bit of a citrus undertone. aroma was good, left a bitter taste on the palate. drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA

But--as with Anchorsteam--I just can’t dig it. Maybe there’s too much competition in Norcal. Certainly not a bad beer but in my opinion nothing spectacular. A bit light for my taste, tangerine color but clear. I’ll keep rooting for this brewery but I hope the beers get better. STEPHENDR (478), California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Bottled. Pours a clear gold with a sparse white head. Aroma of grapefruit, fruit, flowery hops. Light-ish body, moderate carbonation. The taste is pretty much what my nose led me to believe, with a touch of caramel sweetness tossed in. Grapefruit rind finish. Not dangerously good but one I’d like to try on tap. asteele8 (270), Mukilteo, Washington, USA

Gotta say first that I love the bottle art that Speakeasy develops, reminds me of the mobster movies that I absolutely love. Pours a clear yellow-gold with a nice white head on top. Aroma is full of hops, citrus, grapefruit, and grass. Flavor is hops, grapefruit, and caramel. Not quite as strong as I would like an IPA to be. The aroma makes it out to be amazing, but the flavor falls short. Easily drinkable though, not a bad beer, but not what I expected. Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 12, 2007 Pours a foggy orange gold. Floral aroma with notes of citrus as it warms. Very strong bitter hop taste with a nice caramel malt finish. It leaves a bitter sting in your mouth. retailgiant (9), USA does not count | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 8, 2007 A good IPA but nothing extraordinary or different to get me to buy another. Somewhat bland as IPAs go these days. The Speakeasy Double Daddy IPA is more interesting.
